Bullseye presents Carrie Iverson: Catalyst

Portland, OR - Bullseye Gallery is pleased to announce Carrie Iverson’s “Catalyst,” an installation of prints on paper and kilnformed glass, on view January 3 - February 16, 2008.

Iverson, who studied at Yale and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, is a printmaker and glass artist who works with layers and images in several media. “Catalyst reflects the process of transition – objects in motion, imagery sub-merged just below the surface, the traces of an explosion,” says Iverson. “I am interested in examining how evidence is presented, how events are reconstructed. Glass is such an evocative medium, simultaneously delicate and harsh. That ten-sion and vulnerability seems particularly appropriate for reflecting on the fragile and film-like quality of memory. Some of the works incorporate a semi-opaque surface which acts as a skin or veil that momentarily intrudes into your reception of seeing the piece. By their reactive natures, printmaking and glass work are natural palimpsests; the development of the image remains in the final piece, making it a reflection of the process of sorting memory itself.”

Iverson has exhibited in galleries and public spaces across the US, including “Wake,” a memorial to the US soldiers and Iraqis who have died in Iraq, installed in the Brooklyn Public Library's lobby gallery in 2006. Her work is included in the following collections:

The Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, IL
The Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn, NY
Bullseye Glass Company, Portland, OR
Columbus Museum of Art, Columbus, GA
Joan Flasch Artists’ Book Collection, School of the Art Institute, Chicago, IL
The Mary and Leigh Block Museum of Art, Northwestern University, Evanston, IL
Montgomery Museum of Fine Art, Montgomery, AL
The Museum of Modern Art, Franklin Furnace Artists’ Books Collection, New York, NY
The Museum of Contemporary Art, Artists’ Books Collection, Chicago, IL
University of Mississippi, Southern Graphics Council Archives, Oxford, MS
